We Love our Gulf!

30 April 2014, 05:30 AM

From December 2013-March 2014, giant 'Love our Gulf' message boards appeared at 11 beaches and community events to capture your favourite things about the Hauraki Gulf.

Over the summer, 1700 of you left a message. You told us what you love about the Gulf, what you want for its future and offered ideas on how we can look after it, now and in years to come.

Even if you couldn’t be there, you still shared. Love Our Gulf turned up on Facebook and Instagram (#loveourgulf), with 428 of you liking the page, 573 posting photos, 27 posting videos – and 14,991 people viewing the posts.

All of your comments, photos and ideas were captured in a report that went to the Stakeholder Working Group to help them as they develop the Sea Change – Tai Timu Tai Pari Marine Spatial Plan.

Thanks to WWF New Zealand and their Love Our Gulf team for connecting with our summer communities. WWF generated heaps of interest in Sea Change – Tai Timu Tai Pari and in the issues facing our Gulf, just like they set out to do.

Thanks also to the Tindall Foundation for helping us ‘Love our Gulf’ by funding the campaign. As Stephen Tindall said in his ‘Love our Gulf’ video: “the Gulf is an incredibly special place… Let’s look after our Gulf, let’s enhance it, let’s make it an even better place, so that in years to come, future generations can enjoy it as much as I have.”

See you all in the summer of 2014-2015 for Love our Gulf 2!
